Join WEDU at USF's The Patel Center for Global Solutions for a Screening of the Independent Lens Film, Solar Mamas.

 
WEDU's Community Cinema Screening will be held at USF's Patel Center for Global Solutions, on Tuesday, November 27th. Doors open at 5:30pm.

ABOUT THE FILM: Part of Women and Girls Lead, Solar Mamas follows, Rafea, a beautiful, strong-willed 32-year-old Jordanian mother of four, traveling outside of her village for the first time ever to attend Barefoot College’s solar engineering program. India’s Barefoot College, where rural, poor and often illiterate women from around the world are offered the rare opportunity to receive an education that teaches them how to make their communities self-reliant and sustainable. Once there, Rafea will join women from Guatemala, Kenya, Burkina Faso, and Colombia in a life-changing six-month job-training program that will transform her into solar engineer -- and change her life.

Solar Mamas is part of the international WHY POVERTY? project, a groundbreaking cross-media event reaching more than 500 million people around the world via over 60 international television broadcasters as well as radio, internet and live events in November 2012.

Community Cinema is a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring free monthly screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens and other PBS presentations, bringing together leading organizations, community members, and public television stations to learn, discuss, and get involved in key social issues of our time.

This event is free and open to the public. (On campus parking fees apply)
Seating is limited. Registration is requested.
